How the ISO 6360 number is organised

What do the 15 digits represent?

ISO 6360 divides the number into five three-digit groups: material or abrasive, shank and overall length, working-part shape, specific characteristics, and nominal diameter.

Why does the decoder leave some codes unidentified?

The code tables span several ISO 6360 parts and many instrument families. This page deliberately names only entries verified in primary sources; an unidentified code is safer than a guessed specification.

What do the last three digits mean?

For conventional dental rotary instruments, the fifth group is the nominal diameter designation. A code of 016 corresponds to 1.6 mm.
